If you followed this blog before, you will notice that the photos at the top of the screen have changed. That's because my life has changed. The original impetus for starting this project two years ago was my return to Kenya after 35 years (hence the photo of my friend's kitchen there). When I got home from that trip, I kept on posting. I stopped last summer thinking to take a short break. Well the break hasn't been that short, but I've missed the running internal dialog that was generated by the need to keep writing and have been asked when I would start again by a small faithful audience.
In the meantime, my life is about half time here in Bedford and half time in New York City, where I have a grandchild, and am also developing a whole new direction in my work. Well new, but not so new also. So, these posts will come from two very different worlds - the quiet, sitting in my living room listening to the creak of two wood stoves world of home, and New York City, where I am baby sitting, roaming familiar streets, and also working with parents, young children, and some parent run pre schools, giving talks and trainings.
What do I plan to write about this time? Some people have told me that I ought to narrow the focus of this blog because that's the way most blogs work. I know, I know. But as I've been mulling it over these last weeks, I've decided that my take on the world inevitably blends the personal and the professional and the visual. I am going to try to put up one personal and one work related post each week. In both there are some themes that demand to be included. They are:
- Being 65 and a grandmother - Still a shock when actually written it down.
- My work life – I am more and more interested in talking about "the art of teaching." And also how to pass on what I know to parents. I am currently working with parents, teachers of adult education, college students, tutors, and pre school teachers.
- Country life and living alone, sort of (right now there is a 13 year old sleeping on the little bed in my work room. Every five minutes I yell in there to wake her up!).
- Riding the subways and walking the streets of New York 40 years later –I am spending a lot of time back in the same neighborhood I grew up in and also learning whole new parts of the city.
- Lists: These are fun and can take me anywhere. I have notes for several. (Subway encounters will be the first.)
- Pictures of all sorts.
Well time to feed the fires. Feb , 2011
Hooray! I'm glad you're back.

Peggy,
I read and enjoyed your blogs and wanted to tell you, that for me, I enjoy the broader scope of what you have to share vs. the recommended narrower focus. You are not a narrow focus person. Your writing should reflect you, and not someone elses idea of what a blog is and isn't.......just my two cents worth. Take care.
